Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Mainframe Software Engineer (ACAPS) to join an agile squad supporting Fifth Third Bank. The role focuses on designing, developing, and enhancing the ACAPS mainframe application while ensuring high-quality, secure, and compliant solutions. This engineer will collaborate with cross-functional teams, follow agile practices, and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and implement features for the mainframe ACAPS application.
  • Collaborate with software engineers to define system architecture and technical solutions.
  • Apply test-driven development and maintain high code quality standards.
  • Participate in agile ceremonies and communities of practice to drive technical excellence.
  • Provide technical leadership and mentor teammates within the squad.
  • Automate processes to ensure maintainable, testable, and supportable code.
  • Partner with operations/engineering teams to improve system performance and reliability.
  • Stay current with IT trends, tools, and security best practices.
  • Ensure compliance with audit and regulatory requirements.
  • Support end-users and assist in issue resolution.

Must-Have Skills

  • 5+ years of Mainframe/ACAPS experience.
  • Strong skills in COBOL, JCL, Platform Engineering (Mainframe).
  • Solid understanding of object-oriented and functional software design.
  • Experience with agile software development methodologies.
  • Strong problem-solving and collaboration skills.
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal & written).

Nice-to-Have Skills

  • Experience with DB2, DataPower, IBM IDZ, MQ, DevOps practices.
  • Background in financial/banking applications.

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or equivalent experience.
